Kiwi06 Report post Posted March 25, 2009 The program works fine and runs properly up until I connect to the server. It says I can't connect to the server I've uninstalled, reinstalled, rereinstalled and its still not working. I can view the players online page. I have all firewalls disabled for Eternal Lands. I have to admit though that I'm not that clever when it comes to ports and the like. I've read there is a problem with port 2000 and I've tried my best to open it or whatever but I really have no Idea what I'm doing. I've had this problem for about 3 months now and I can't stand being away from my EL Please halp! -Kiwi
Gampa Report post Posted March 25, 2009 Contact your ISP and ask them if they're blocking port 2000.
Kiwi06 Report post Posted March 26, 2009 I talked to my ISP they said they don't block anything. I do think they are even more stupid than I am. I went to my ISP page and disabled the firewall but to no avail. EL still won't work for me. What is the problem? Please help :\
The_Piper Report post Posted March 26, 2009 Try this: Open a DOS box (Start button -> execute -> "cmd"), then type there "telnet the-green-leaf.de 2000" and press Enter. What do you see? At least some lines of text or just a black screen? If its just a black screen, your problem is port 2000 somehow. (that was trying to connect to a MUD server at port 2000 on a different server in a different country where the EL game server is hosted) Something is blocking it. Your ISP, your anti-virus tool, your firewall, your router or whatever. Piper
Kiwi06 Report post Posted March 26, 2009 (edited) I did this and it worked. So I guess the problem is not port 2000. What other reason would it not be working? I've disabled my ISPs firewall, my router's firewall, my pc firewall, my antivirus wasn't working right a long time ago so I deleted that...Its just downright confusing. Thanks for all your help and suggestions but EL is still not working for me. Still needing help on the diagnosis. Kiwi06 Report post Posted March 26, 2009 Update: I found on another thread an idea where you can type into the command promt 'telnet game.eternal-lands.com 2000'. I did this and it did the whole "Hi, and welcome to Eternal Lands!" thing. I guess this means that it is definitely not the port 2000 problem. So what could it be? I've uninstalled and reinstalled again and it still does the same thing. Please help
bigkav Report post Posted March 26, 2009 Try remove your eternal lands folder in My documents; cut and paste it someone other then in My Documents, then reload EL. you will have to set up ur settings again, if it doesn't work try downloading the EL-CVS http://cvs.labby.co.uk/ If that doesn't work idk what will. these aren't very common methods. but like you said you've tried alot of things, one of these could do it. LabRat Report post Posted March 26, 2009 Have you firewalled EL from connecting to the internet? If you are running a firewall on your PC disable it. Believe it or not they don't actually do anything useful (unless you class hogging your resources and stopping you doing what you yourself want to do as useful) and are an abomination purely to separate a novice user and his cash. Even the free ones

The_Piper Report post Posted March 26, 2009 Do you run any anti virus tool which, for any unknown reason, blocks el.exe? Do you run norton antivirus? This is known for analyzing the data stream from the client to the server and after a few seconds or minutes, falsely guess from that data stream, that EL is a virus phoning home and shutting down the connection. Kiwi06 Report post Posted March 26, 2009 I have AVG (the free version) It says its Anti Virus and AntiSpyware are outdated and are disabled I figured it its not working then it can't block anything Should I just delete it? :\
Kiwi06 Report post Posted March 27, 2009 I am ONLINE! Woot! The problem was indeed a firewall. I have AOL (America Online) and I didn't know it had its own firewall :\ It must have also been the reason why I couldn't connect to Internet explorer. Thanks for all your help and suggestions
sywren Report post Posted March 27, 2009 (edited) I have AVG (the free version) It says its Anti Virus and AntiSpyware are outdated and are disabled I figured it its not working then it can't block anything Should I just delete it? :\ I knew it! My boyfriend did the same thing. Some time after he installed it, he downloaded the Windows Service Pack 3 and suddenly we couldn't connect to anything. I posted here and we still haven't fixed this issue on his laptop. Internet Explorer is the only browser we can use. We had to delete Firefox because it stopped working, too. It seems that the only thing that is different is that when I try to run "telnet game.eternal-lands.com 2000" in the DOS window, I get a message that it isn't recognized as an internal or external command, operable program, or batch file. We deleted AVG and we still can't connect to anything. Edited March 27, 2009 by sywren
Kiwi06 Report post Posted March 27, 2009 Ahhh. Well my problem had to do with AOL Firewall, but it seems if you can't connect the Telnet way then its the port 2000 thing.
