Roja Report post Posted December 27, 2006 Some of our static objects, such as plants and trees, use an alpha transparency map on them. The thing is, only 2 colors are taken into account with the alpha maps: black & white. This gives a very hard edge appearance. Many games have the full grayscale taken into account, so that the transition can be much softer, and more realistic looking because even though irl you would have hard edges, in the game world you have pixelated jagged edges, which look bad.
